Skating Etiquette
Stay Together | no one left behind
anchor skater rule
The last skater, often called the anchor, is responsible for the safety of the group from the rear. They watch to ensure no one gets left behind and communicates with the group chat if a skater needs to turn back, accompanying them if needed. So route leaders may continue to lead the rest of the group. The anchor is typically a volunteer if no one volunteers, then the last skater is assigned the role, and they are never to be alone. Skaters will stay together in pairs to maintain safety and support.
respect
Respect the physical space of skaters around you. Respect the trails and spaces we meet by taking all trash with you.
Safety gear
Protective gear is a must! Wrist guards and knee pads especially,
Call Outs
See a bump, say a "BUMP!" Warn others of obstacles. Need to stop? Shout "STOP"and place one fist up in the air. If there is a pedestrian we say "walkers" or "runners" and if they are on the left or right of the path. If there is a bike or scooter we say "bike" and indicate if they are on the left or right.
Passing Rules
First option should be to pass a skater on the left, make sure to call out which side you will be passing on and give the skater infront of you enough time to adjust. Slower Skaters should always move to the right.
